About

Taco was born Taco Ockerse in Jakarta, Indonesia in 1955. After finishing high school in Brussels, he moved to Hamburg and embarked upon a career in theatre, appearing in high profile productions such as West Side Story, Chicago and Sweet Charity. In 1979 he founded his first band, Taco’s Bizz. By 1981 he’d signed his first recording contract with Polydor whereupon he released his version of ‘Puttin’ on the Ritz’ by Irving Berlin, which became a global hit peaking at number 4 on the US Hot 100.
