Mario Rubén González Pierotti nació en Cruz del Eje, Córdoba, Argentina. Comenzó su carrera artística adoptando el seudónimo de JAIRO antes de viajar a España, país al que llegó en 1970 para grabar su primer disco.

Su primera presentación en público fue en el Festival Internacional de Málaga en 1971. Con su canción “Javier y Paloma” obtuvo el Segundo Premio y el Premio de la Crítica.
