Oscar Palavecino nació en el paraje salteño Rancho El Ñato cerca de los márgenes del Río Pilcomayo, en el Chaco-salteño, parte del Chaco Boreal. Por ser de esa zona de Salta es que recibe su apodo de "Chaqueño". En 1988, en sus pasos por Tucumán graba su primer álbum: “Pa' mis Abuelos Esta Zamba”, seguido de “Pal Tío Pala” que se lanzó el año siguiente. Se vendió en el chaco boliviano, paraguayo y en Tartagal. Debido a esto, en la región lo presentaban como El Zorzal del Chaco-Sal
